According to a report published in Dawn on January 9, 2013, Deputy Attorney general Tariq Mehmood Jahangir, green number plates can only be used by vehicles owned and registered in the name of the government of Pakistan. He added that using fake green number plates can lead to ten years of imprisonment.
In Kurram, newly merged districts numerous government employees use fake plates on their non-custom paid and custom paid vehicles. Servants of district administration and police department also use revolving emergency lights which is fraudulent intent and impersonation of a public servant under Pakistan Penal Code section, 170 and 171.
This is not only breaching the law in broad daylight but also causing illegitimacy syndrome in the general public.
Government should probe all those who are involved in this practice and also take serious measures.
