The Kurram Distress—Roads Remain Blocked in Kurram After Deadly Convoy Attack

Kurram, Pakistan – The roads in Kurram District have been blocked for nearly three weeks following a deadly attack on a convoy. On October 12, a convoy travelling through the district was ambushed by militants, leaving 18 people dead including women and children and numerous others injured. The incident sparked widespread distress and has led to the closure of main routes, including the Thall-Parachinar Road and the roads from Parachinar to Boshehra, Tari Mangal, and Ghouzgari.

As the government seeks to restore order, local residents are facing severe hardships due to the extended roadblocks. These blocked routes are vital for connecting communities, accessing essential services, and conducting trade. The ongoing closure has disrupted daily life and isolated many from basic necessities.

While the district administration has made efforts to resolve the situation, progress has been hindered by the absence of concrete actions against the suspects responsible for the attack on the convoy. Reports on social media indicate that the Kurram District Administration has provided a list of 62 suspects to Anjuman-e-Hussainia, requesting assistance in locating and handing over these individuals to the authorities. However, there has been little progress, fueling local frustration and government concerns over potential retaliation from the victims’ families.

The government remains cautious about fully reopening the roads, fearing that tensions could escalate further if suspects are not brought to justice. Authorities hope that swift and fair action against those responsible will pave the way to reopen the roads and restore peace in the region.
